Towada City Directions and Maps

Getting to Towada City from Misawa Air Force Base

Since internet maps searches aren't useful to people who cannot read Japanese, I've decided to take photos for directions to the places my family and I visit in hopes of helping others stationed in Misawa City. Misawa Air Force Base offers some written directions and maps to most major tourist attractions, but it's easier to read and look for major landmarks when driving with children in the car. Pictures may appear grey because of inclement weather and not all images were taken on the same day.

1. Go out the main gate and make a left turn. Make a right turn at the first residential street.

2. Continue forward past the church and. Make a right turn when the street comes to a T-intersection with a traffic light (Lawsons is on the right, a field is in front of you). You are now on Falcon Road. (If you exit the POL Gate and continue forward you would also pass this area.)

3. Keep going past Universe toward Hachinohe Expressway. If you notice the blue road sign overhead, it will read 10: Towada. Falcon road will eventually turn into Route 10.

4. If you see the Jam Friend Club Pachinko Parlor you are headed in the correct direction.

5. Continue forward past Circle K.

6. Continue past the entrance to Hachinohe Expressway.

7. Follow the road as it curves right and pass more farmland.

8. Continue past Lawsons. (If you have other directions that take you from Misawa AFB via Misawa Train Station, this is where you’d turn right onto Route 10.)

9. Stay on Route 10. (This road will have a “turnpike” to Route 4, if anyone is interested in taking another long, scenic route to Aomori City.) 13km is about 8.06 miles, but will feel like it is longer because of the one-lane, two-way traffic road.

10. When the road comes to a Y-intersection, go left, toward Towadashi Station. You will pass Ks, Homac, and Hard-Off stores.

11. Follow the road until it comes to an intersection, turn left at the bridge. Caution: oncoming traffic is from a one-way street.

12. Proceed forward. You are now in Towada City on a street that might be named on some maps as Former Route 4.

I know sometimes it's a hassle asking for and collecting maps from different organizations. So, I've compiled and scanned some maps I obtained from different Japan Tourist Information Centers and other on-line sites.
