Nanbu Town Dragon Tower

Saturday, October 2

The first time I heard of Nanbu Town was through my husband’s command when they offered a cherry picking excursion for families. Not much English information appears on the web when your try to Google it, just bits of statistics on Wikipedia. Its economy relies heavily on agriculture – apples, cherries, and grapes. After reading an article in The Insider, we were intrigued by the enormous dragon tower. We couldn’t envision driving about an hour’s south of Misawa just for the tower, so we decided to stop by after a recent trip to a neighboring town’s festival.

Unfortunately we arrived about 15:45 and only had thirty minutes on the 100 feet dragon tower. Nightfall and a cold breeze swept upon us and we decide to take our children home. We’ll most likely return again to take full advantage of fruit picking, tree top camping, the water slide park, and nearby Hokoji Temple.

Because I cannot read Japanese, I don’t know if this area is open seasonally; but I can imagine that it would be closed in early November when the winter season emerges. However, as with most Japanese public attractions, this mountain top area is closed on Mondays – unless it is a public holiday – then it closes on Tuesday.
